One Speed Open

The story of the race is the cadence plot. 1h10 min in, Zack hit the front on a paved section at I needed to do 130 to hold on. My seat came loose and I needed to jump off to fix it. We had a decent amount of climbing that followed and I could do 90ish RPM for another 45min at good power, right around zone4. The climbing ended and cadence needed to go back up to 100+ mostly around 110 and couldn’t generate much more than 300 watts because I started to be cadence limited. Average pedaling power 315 vs NP* of 320. Total average power with zeros in 265 Watts.

First race easier than last week, Second race a hair harder. Both went significantly quicker the second week, partly routing the course the other direction, partly swapped over to the PDX, and partly due to better driving.

Adjusted the datafile to put the running portions at FTP (maybe too high, maybe too low)… the result is below. Average power up 23-25 watts. Normalized power up 10-11 watts. The big change to the detail is that the long hard drag to finish each lap looks like it starts with NP* well below the bottom of threshold zone… aka feeling recovered and ready to drill it. In reality, you don’t start that portion feeling good, you start it feeling like shit and it really takes a boatload of motivation to stop yourself from bleeding time on the long straight drag up to the high-point.
